Design Inspiration

Photographer Joey Shigeo

This advertising campaign has inspired my action/design images.

I want to do a series of 5 images including the action trick shot and a product shot of the footwear that attaches to each sport.

Each action shot will be shot with my 20-700mm lens similar lighting.
Each Footwear shot will be shot in the studio with very even lighting very similar to the images above.

I am still undecided if I will use a white background or black but i will shot both just incase.

I want the footwear to looks are old and worn as possible

I am also going to have each athlete sign their name, then ill scan it in and use it on each of their shots.

Eadweard Muybridge

Eadweard Muybridge one of the true masters in photography.

Muybridge become internationally famous for photographing hight speed sequences of human and animal movement. Muybridge used his photography to prove that a horse jumped while in a gallop.

My strobe sequences reference this amazing photographer showing movement of the body in high speed.

Thomas Stockli

I am speechless on how amazing Thomas Stockli's work is. He has found a way to make extreme sports photography into fine art. Amazing heavy black and black and whites images so simple with amazing textures.

Josh Letchworth

Every now and then I stumble across a photographer that really has a unique style and can make an extreme sport photography look amazing using their technique consistently.

Josh Letchwork is one of those photographers, he usually shoots water skateboarding ( WakeBoarding without being strapped in). He ends to uses alot of speedlites to light his subject as most extreme sports photographers do.

Arrogance

These are a few shots out of Arrogance mag - JERO

These images are apart of a series on Chris Haffey. A really contrasty black and white series with very heavy blacks.

The heavy black work really well throughout the series but as a stand alone print some of the images take the focal point away from the skater and become a bit messy. The bottom image a back light would make this image much more appealing to me as i find it quite annoying how his shirt blends into the background completely.

Wheel Advert

Looking at the design aspect of this image..

I really like the Richie Eisler name right next to the skater because it is simple and gives the skater recognition. It has a great simple font all in caps apart from the skaters name. The red logo really stands out and that is the main focal point.

Tour Portait

This image obviously is relating to the last supper. This is a tour photo shot by Jero on the shred till your dead tour.

They have lit this in a modern way with a very heavy back light very unlike the real leoando da vinci. This defiantly puts a a tour into a single image showing the fun of a tour.

Rollerblading Inspiration

Here are two images I found that caught my eye while looking for some inspiration to plan some more rollerblading action shots.

The lighting is what appealed to me in this shot. The lighting is very subtle as it almost looks like no light where used at all, but you can see that there has been two lights used at the top of the stairs one back lighting and one lighting his face. A perfect balance between natural and artificial light while still maintaining a good sharp image.

This image caught my eye obviously for the great composition. it bothers me a little bit that the refection is cut off. This was all natural night, the sun seems to be bouncing off the water creating a fairly well light subject.

Printing Acrylics

I have recently decided that everything that i will hang in the exhibition will be printed on acrylic. It is very very expensive but much worth the final product.

http://www.geniusprinting.com.au/acrylic-pricing.php

This is the link to where i will be printing my images.

I have decided on printing acrylics for many reasons

- Inspired by the Red Bull Illume traveling exhibition - all printed on back lit acrylic

- I am photographing MODERN extreme sports - Acrylics are very modern

- My images are very commercial and framing in a window mount would be inappropriate

- Foam core is tacky

- I knowing pinning is the exhibition trend to make the image tell the story but I really want my images to pop out and have a high shock value.

I am saving my pennies =]

Inspiration for Adverts

More Fashion

In mens commerical fashion most ads seem to cut off the head.

I believe this is to keep the attention on the clothes and to not identify a face. Although in womens fashion it will almost be sexist to cut off a head!!!!

Random Fashion inspiration

Hurley

Ive been searching the net for about an hour and getting very frustrated that noone is shooting anything close to the style of fashion photography I want to achieve this semester.

Then i found Hurley =]=]=]=]=]=]=]

This exact style of lighting and composite background textures is exactly the vision I have in my head of how my fashion images.

I see they have lit this with one light on the subject and one on the background. then put multiple layers of textures to achieve the advert.

I have done similar shots in the past with the textures but not quite a harsh light on the subject.

This Campaign has inspired my next fashion photoshoot with Velvet Couch Clothing

I wish i knew who the photographer was =[

Skateboarding Adverts

Ive have been researching some advertising images and getting some ideas for my own designs and images.

The graphic design tends to be very simple and not overpowering the photography.

The most post production you will see will be the textures overlayed inside the images.
